Double Posts

Double posting is a condition where either an impatient user clicks “Submit” on a form too quickly, or a timed-out user refreshes and re-submits information.

Conscientious people will attempt to fix these mistakes.

Forums often allow a user to delete posts they may have made, and Twitter offers a similar service, and there are probably countless other examples to be found. If a user is unable to delete the mistake themselves, they may be able to enlist the help of the Webmaster or Moderating team to remove the faux pas. At the very least, they’ll apologize for the error to the rest of the userbase.

Others, however, typically do a few things:

  • Ignore The user will not acknowledge the error and move on. Acceptable when no means of removal are easy to access, disappointing otherwise.
  • Attention GrubThe user will create a third post, commonly in the format of “LOL look wat i did thar”. No one cares, don’t do this.
  • Proofreading Need to change one or two words in your post? These users don’t see a problem with reposting the exact same thing with the minor alterations included, regardless of post length.
  • Spam – So, maybe the double (or triple or octuple) post is intentional. A variation of the Attention Grub.

These double posts are needless. Own up to your mistake, try and correct it, and move on. We all mess up, but some of us learn from the experience.

    I’ll only ask once:

I suppose you have a proof that God actually kills a kitten for a double post? Otherwise, why equate God to a successful robot that repeats a behavior each time you supposedly do some particular action in free will? And if you don’t have free will, why would God send evil speech to you to say something about Him that in your heart would make him an arch typical meany? Is that an indication of favor?

    No. Really.

If the image isn’t yours, send this along to whoever made it..

2John 1:3 Grace shall be with you, mercy, peace from God the Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of the Father, in truth and love.

In the Name of Jesus Christ, Amen

    • The picture is not mine; it appeared to be the most relevant one to the idea, however, as it is the bottom left section of a popular image, primarily used in forums. I did not intend to offend with that image, nor do I take it seriously in any way, shape, or form.

      Please lighten up.

      • Oh my God (no offense), I’m having a hard time believing that people prefer to pick on the small details as opposed to actually considering the entire message.

        Wait. That’s society. NOOOOOOOO….

But it keeps us writing, doesn’t it?
